Lisa Bernard-Pearl, MD, FACOG

Lisa Bernard-Pearl, MD, FACOGBoard Certified Obstretrician/Gynecologist-founder of Iris Specialty Gyn Care. My practice is exclusively geared toward the evaluation and treatment of women with lower genital tract conditions, including vulvo-vaginal pain, chronic and/or recurrent vaginitis, vulvar dermatologic problems (lichen sclerosus, lichen simplex chronicus, hidradinitis supuritiva, condyloma, among many others), and gynecologic dysplasia (abnormal Paps/HPV related cervical, vaginal, and/or vulvar changes). I do require that all of my patients have primary providers that do their routine gynecologic care. (I am happy to make suggestions if you do not already have a provider.)

To give you some background on me, I earned my B.S. in Zoology and a B.A. in Women's Studies with a minor in African-American Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. I went on to do research at Harvard's Dana Farber Cancer Institute before earning my MD from Stanford University. It was during my obstetrics and gynecology residency at UC San Francisco that I developed a special interest in vulvo-vaginal pain, chronic and/or recurrent vaginitis and gynecologic dysplasia. Following my residency, I stayed on at UCSF to do the two-year John Kerner Outpatient Gynecology Fellowship in gynecologic dysplasia. As a faculty member at the UCSF Dysplasia Clinic, I started a Vulvar Specialty Clinic and also spent 6 months training with renowned vulvar dermatologist Erika Klemperer. For the following ten years, I have maintained a subspecialty practice in these areas within my general ob/gyn practice.

The founding of Iris Specialty Gyn Care has allowed me to focus my attention on women with the conditions I am most interested in, spend more time with each patient, and develop a team that can provide comprehensive, compassionate care to help women heal. I believe in a multi-disciplinary approach to the evaluation and treatment of vulvo-vaginal pain syndromes, involving a collaborative care team which includes pelvic floor physical therapists, supportive counselors, and integrative practitioners such as specialists in biofeedback, acupuncture, and chiropractic care as warranted.

When you see me for consultation, following an extensive review of your history and careful examination and testing, I will develop a care plan that may include education, pharmacological therapies, pelvic floor physical therapy, trigger point injections, nerve blocks, surgical management options, psychological support for dealing with the effects of pain on quality of life and relationships, chiropractic care, and/ or acupuncture as needed. I am also happy to work collaboratively with your primary provider, including providing detailed reports per your request.

If you would like to learn more about me, and/or make an appointment, please click on the link to my website www.IrisSpecialtyGyn.com or call 510-520-4244. I look forward to working with you to help restore your vulvar, vaginal, and/or cervical health and quality of life!
